Best Practices for Recycling from Your Hauler
Ever uncertain what can and cannot be placed in the recycling? Or if you need to handle recycling carts differently from your garbage carts? LeBoeuf Rubbish Removal is here to help answer all your questions. Learn best practices for recycling directly from your hauler, from our printable recycling guide to in-depth best practices on everything from what you put in the cart to how to place it to minimize delays.
Knowing What Recycling Your Hauler Accepts
Both states we service here at LeBoeuf, Massachusetts and Connecticut, utilize single-stream recycling, meaning everything allowed for recycling goes into the same recycling bin or cart. What can be accepted for recycling is governed by both state regulations and what is accepted at recycling facilities. Below is a complete list of what is and isn’t accepted for recycling.

Best Practices for Filling Your Recycling Bin
Once you know what you can place in your recycling bin, the next step is to make sure it’s loaded properly. With these three tips, you can make it easier for your recycling to be picked up and processed:
- Don’t Bag Your Recycling: While garbage should be bagged, recycling should not. Not only are plastic bags generally non-recyclable, but bagged recycling makes it harder for the products to be sorted once they make it to a recycling facility.
- Cut Cardboard into Smaller Pieces: To fully utilize your cart’s storage and prevent unloading issues, make sure to cut up large pieces of cardboard into 12” by 12” sections. Larger pieces can get stuck in the cart when unloading.
- Don’t Overfill Your Cart: If you’ve got extra recycling, don’t try to cram it into your cart, overfill your cart, or leave it next to the cart, as all can cause delays. Either keep it for next time or think about increasing cart size or pickup schedule.
Also, make sure to clean your cart occasionally to avoid future recycling sticking to the sides of your cart.
Understanding Schedules and Cart Placement
Lastly, it’s important to understand your pickup schedule for recycling and cart placement. LeBoeuf operates on an A/B alternating week schedule, so your pickup schedule depends on your assigned week. It’s also important to understand holiday delays that can impact your pickup date. When it comes to placing your recycling (and garbage) carts for pickup, follow these guidelines to avoid delays:
- Face the cart towards the road (handle-side towards the house).
- Have your cart curbside by 6:00 AM on the pickup day.
- Place the cart clear of other objects, including those above the cart.
