Dealing with Extra Trash (and Recycling) for Your Hauler
Some weeks your trashcan is light, and sometimes it’s heavy. The same goes for the recycling bin. If you find yourself with too much garbage or recycling when it’s time for your pickup, it’s important to know your options, best practices, and penalties you might face dealing with the extra trash. At home dealing with trash and recycling carts or at work dealing with dumpsters, LeBoeuf will guide you through dealing with extra trash and recycling in this blog.
Dealing with Extra Trash & Recycling at Home
So, what should you do if you have more recycling or garbage at home than can fit in your bin? Besides waiting until the next pickup, the following options are available.
- Request an Additional Pickup: If you’re going to have a trash-generating event like a holiday party, you can always request an additional pickup. Just contact us for the pickup fee.
- Upgrade Your Bin and Pickup Frequency: If you have a 65-gallon bin, you can upgrade to our 95-gallon bin. If your pickup is every other week, you can upgrade to every week.
- Break Down Recycling Further: If you find your recycling bin filling up, break down things like cardboard boxes further to free up more room. Learn more with our recycling best practices blog.
If you do none of these, you may incur additional charges when we pick up extra trash and recycling (see “What Happens if You Go Over?” below).
Dealing with Extra Trash & Recycling at Work
If you’re a commercial customer, you know that the problems homeowners have are only magnified for a business. Whether for short-term or long-term solutions, you can plan to:
- Update Your Container Sizing and Pickup Schedule: We offer a wide range of containers, from consumer carts to dumpsters of up to 10 cubic yards. Find them and the pickup schedule that works for you.
- Rent a Dumpster: If you know you will have or suddenly do have a large amount of waste, such as from a large inventory shipment or freezer failure, we can help with dumpster rentals of up to 40 cubic yards.
- Install a Compactor: If your garbage and recycling needs are constantly too high for normal hauling, it’s time to look at a compactor to save space and time. Learn more about proper sizing in our blog.
If you do none of these, you may incur additional charges when we pick up extra trash and recycling (see “What Happens if You Go Over?” below).
What Happens if You Go Over?
With our service, you pay for what can go into your garbage and recycling container. If you go over this capacity, there will be additional charges due to the rising cost of end-site dump fees. This includes carts that are overstuffed with the lid open or additional bags placed out with the bins. This can also cause delays in service as these overstuffed carts may not empty properly into our trucks, and extra bags need to be manually picked up by staff. If you’re encountering these problems, it’s time to increase your service with us.
