Picking the Right-Sized Dumpster for Your Project
You’re finally ready to start that next project, and you know you’ll need a dumpster. But what size? Renting a roll-off open-topped dumpster requires a bit of work to get the perfect one for both the amount of rubbish you’ll be generating and the location where it’ll be placed. In this blog, we’re going to go over estimating the capacity you’ll need and other considerations so you can get the right-sized dumpster for your project.
Estimating the Right-Sized Dumpster
At LeBoeuf, we offer roll-off dumpsters in various sizes for all types of projects, from a small home project that just needs more rubbish capacity to large contractor and remodeling projects by the professionals. There are three factors to consider to get the right-sized dumpster for your needs:
- Types of Rubbish: What kind of debris are you disposing of? Bulky materials from construction projects will need more room than products from a house clear-out.
- Total Volume: How much rubbish is your project going to generate? Dumpster measurements are in cubic yards. For reference, one cubic yard can hold about five to six 13-gallon trash bags.
- Space for Dumpster: Have a tight location for the dumpster? You may want to rent a smaller dumpster and then swap it out. Bulk item pickups are another option to cut down on size.
We offer dumpster rentals at 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 cubic yard open-top roll-off containers.
Other Considerations for Your Dumpster
Of course, sizing isn’t the only factor you should be thinking about when it comes to picking the right dumpster.
- Placement: The dumpster will need to be placed on level ground with access for the truck to drop it off and pick it up.
- Clearance: You’ll want to ensure this placement doesn’t block your use or your neighbor’s and that you can easily access the service door to walk larger items into the dumpster.
- Weight: Dumpsters have a weight allotment (1 ton per 10 yards storage; for example, 15 cubic yards has a max weight of 1.5 tons), and if you go over it, you’ll be charged extra.
- Time: All dumpster rentals are allotted for a specific time. For us, every day you’ll need it for past 10 days is another charge, so plan your project accordingly.
It’s also important to remember that not everything in your project may be able to go in the dumpster. Learn more about what’s banned from landfills in our blog, Understanding Waste Disposal Bans for Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Of course, you don’t have to size your dumpsters alone. Here at LeBoeuf Rubbish Removal, we make it easy to rent the perfect dumpster with just a quick call.
